2-Piece Outfits

The CDVs shown here illustrate a style of dress that was particular to younger, more fashionable women of the 1860s.  While most older women wore 1-piece outfits of one fabric, these ladies wear dark shirts with contrasting skirts.  However, while the top looks like it is just tucked in to the skirt, in reality the lining was very fitted while the outside fabric was loosely gathered into the shirt's waistband.  Younger women of this age (late teens to early 20s) were also more likely to wear hats instead of bonnets and wear alternative hair styles such as ringlets or short hair.
