64th Illinois Civilians

Welcome! As re-enactors, we strive to recreate the Civil War era of 1861-1865, and bring it to life, so that others can gain a glimpse into this fascinating period of our nation’s history. Re-enacting extends to recreating the battles and camp life of the Civil War era, as well as showing what civilians were doing back home and on the warfront.

As a civilian with the 64th Illinois, there are many different “impressions” (the kind of person you would like to portray) and styles of clothing you can wear. Your impression is who you portray from the Civil War era. As a Northerner, there are many options to choose from, such as a soldier’s wife/sweetheart (of varying ranks), someone with a trade such as a farmer, lawyer, doctor, etc.

Many of our civilians chose to do a working or middle class impression.  Do a little research and come up with your own unique persona!  Click on the links below for more information on different aspects of research and reenacting.
