No Image Available Merrick Allen, of Joliet, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on November 26, 1861. He died on May 14, 1862 of wounds received at the Battle of Farmington, Mississippi on May 9, 1862. He is buried in section B, grave 3633 at Corinth National Cemetery in Corinth, Mississippi.
 

 

Pvt. Henry Bailey, Company E
No Image Available Henry Bailey, of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 12, 1864. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on November 18, 1915. He is buried at Spring Lake Cemetery in Aurora, Illinois.
 

 

Pvt. John Barnhardt, Company E
No Image Available John Barnhardt, of Ottawa, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 27, 1864. He was captured and sent to Camp Sumter (Andersonville Prison), Georgia. He was mustered out on July 14, 1865. He is buried at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery in Ottawa, Illinois.

No Image Available George Boarner (spelled Borner on the official roster), of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 17, 1864. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on January 28, 1894. He is buried at Wunders Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.

No Image Available Daniel Bryan, of Glendale, Mississippi, enlisted as a Private in Company E on March 5, 1863. He reenlisted as a veteran on December 31, 1863. He died while in the service at Rome, Georgia on August 14, 1864. He is buried in section C, grave 1347 at Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.
 

 

Pvt. Chapman A. Flake, Company E
No Image Available Chapman A. Flake (b. January 25, 1818), of Franklin County, Alabama, enlisted as a Private in Company E on September 11, 1862. He reenlisted as a veteran on December 31, 1863. He was mustered out on May 31, 1865. He died on February 6, 1873 at the age of 55 and is buried at the abandoned Frankfort Cemetery, Franklin County, Alabama.
 

 

Pvt. William R. Freeman, Company E
No Image Available William R. Freeman, of Walnut Grove, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on December 25, 1861. He was discharged due to disability on May 1, 1862. He died on November 1, 1908. He is buried at Freemason's Cemetery in Whiteside County, Illinois.

Note: The Illinois State Genealogical Society's list of Cemeteries does not mention such a cemetery in Whiteside County.

 

 

Pvt. Thomas Garlick, Company E
No Image Available Thomas Garlick, of Lockport, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on December 28, 1861. He reenlisted as a veteran on December 31, 1863. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on October 12, 1884. He is buried at Lockport Cemetery in Lockport, Illinois.
 

 

Pvt. William J. Gortney, Company E
No Image Available William J. Gortney, of Decatur, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on November 10, 1863. He was discharged due to disability on June 17, 1865. He is buried at St. James Soldiers Home Cemetery in St. James, Missouri.
 

 

Pvt. John Goth, Company E
John Goth, of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 23, 1864. He was killed near Atlanta, Georgia on August 11, 1864. He is buried in section H, grave 9023 at Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.

Pvt. Peter Gotto, Company E
No Image Available Peter Gotto (spelled Gotha on the official roster), of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 17, 1864. He might have been promoted to Corporal. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on February 27, 1899. He is buried at Saint Boniface Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
 

 

Capt. David G. Grover, Company E
No Image Available David G. Grover, of Joliet, IL, was commissioned the Captain of Company E on December 31, 1861. He was killed at the Battle of Corinth, Mississippi on October 11, 1862. He is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois.

Note: While Capt. Grover's grave is marked, it is unreadable.  The cemetery records from the time of his burial were destroyed in a fire, so they do not know which grave is his.

No Image Available John Hanberry, of LaSalle, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on December 8, 1861. He reenlisted as a veteran on December 31, 1863. He was killed near Atlanta, Georgia on July 28, 1864. He is buried in section C, grave 2128 at Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.

No Image Available Joseph Heckner, of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 1, 1864. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He is buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery in McHenry, Illinois.

No Image Available Charles Hoppen, of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on December 31, 1863. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on January 4, 1877. He is buried at Saint Boniface Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
 

 

Pvt. David A. Hughes, Company E
David A. Hughes (listed as Daniel A. Hughs on the official roster) of Franklin County, Alabama, enlisted as a Private in Company E on September 11, 1862. Also serving in this company with him was his brother, James C. Hughes. His other brothers, John B. Hughes and William M. Hughes, served in Company F. He was mustered out with his company on May 31, 1865. He died on June 20, 1865 at Camp Butler, near Springfield. He is buried in section 3, grave 267 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.

No Image Available Henry Karnaman (listed as Karnamann or Harnaman on the official roster), of Granville, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on January 2, 1864. He was killed near Atlanta, Georgia on July 22, 1864. He is buried in section E, grave 5781 at Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.

No Image Available John Pryor, of Joliet, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on December 22, 1861. He deserted on November 30, 1862. He died on July 5, 1925. He is buried at Searl Ridge Cemetery north of Bureau, Illinois.
 

 

Cpl. Christian Schmitts, Company E
No Image Available Christian Schmitts (listed as Charles Smith (or Schmitt) on the official roster) (b. 1835?), of Chicago, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on March 17, 1864. At some point he was promoted to Corporal of the same company. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on May 26, 1906 at the age of 71. He is buried in section 4, grave 32 at Veterans Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
 

 

Pvt. John H. Smith, Company E
No Image Available John H. Smith, enlisted as a Private in Company E on February 7, 1862. He was discharged due to disability on July 4, 1862. He is buried at Green Mountain Memorial Park in Boulder, Colorado.

Pvt. David W. Thayer, Company E
No Image Available David W. Thayer, of Quincy, IL, enlisted as a Private in Company E on July 10, 1863. He was captured and sent to Camp Sumter (Andersonville Prison), Georgia. He died there of rheumatism on January 12, 1865 and is buried in grave 12437 at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.
 

 

Pvt. Jepta Vandever, Company E
No Image Available Jepta Vandever, enlisted as a Private in Company E on October 30, 1863. He died while in the service in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 8, 1865. He is buried in section F, grave 1972 at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
 

 

1st Sgt. Thomas A. Watson, Company E
No Image Available Thomas Alexander Watson (b. December 24, 1840) of Minooka, Illinois, enlisted as a Private in Company E on October 26, 1861. He reenlisted as a veteran on December 31, 1863. At some point he was promoted to 1st Sergeant of the same company. He was mustered out with his company on July 11, 1865. He died on November 21, 1911 at the age of 70. He is buried at Agnes City Cemetery in Agnes, Kansas.
