He died on December 13, 1921 at the age of 84 and is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana near his brother-in-law, Austin Veeder Flint. There is some evidence to suggest that he made the U.S. Army a career until December 28, 1882. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. |

According to family history, he served as a musician and stretcher bearer in the company. Also serving in this company with him was Samuel Franklin "Frank" Courtright (his brother-in-law), Jacob Kneadler (his brother-in-law), and Amos E. Courtright (his brother-in-law's brother). He was mustered out with his company on May 31, 1865. He died on May 25, 1905 at the age of 70 and is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana near his brother-in-law, Samuel Franklin "Frank" Courtright.
